Chicago White Sox vs. San Diego Padres Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-1-2022

The San Diego Padres will try to inch closer to nailing down a wildcard spot Saturday as they host the Chicago White Sox in the second game of a three game series. The Padres are currently in the second wildcard spot while the White Sox have been eliminated from contention. These two teams haven't played on another since 2017. Dylan Cease (14-7) goes for the White Sox while Mike Clevinger (6-7) takes the hill for the Padres. First pitch is at 8:40 p.m. ET.

The White Sox made a surge in August and looked like they might make a run at the Guardians, but they fell apart in September losing 8 straight games before snapping that losing streak on Thursday. They come into this game now under .500 and  were some 11 games behind the Guardians as of Friday night. Their season will end next week but they can still play for pride and finish with a winning record.

The good news is their ace, Dylan Cease, takes the hill on Saturday. Cease has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. Cease is 14-7 on the season with a miniscule 2.07 ERA in 31 starts. He has 222 strikeouts and 74 walks in 179 innings. He is tied for 5th in the AL in wins, 2nd in strikeouts, and 2nd in ERA. The White Sox have a team ERA of 3.93, which ranks 15th in baseball.
