Not much was expected out of the Blackhawks at the start of the 2022-23 season. The Blackhawks started the season 0-2 and their critics felt vindicated. The Blackhawks bounced back, however, and reeled off four straight wins and looked like a team that could be a playoff contender. The Blackhawks have fallen back to earth since then, going just 2-5-3 in their last ten games. On Wednesday night, the Blackhawks lost for the fourth time in five games, 5-2 to the Blues. Andreas Athanasiou scored twice for Chicago and goalie Arvid Soderblom stopped 30-of-35 shots.

“Anytime we had a bit of a mishap in the (defensive) zone or mess up on a 2-on-1 or give up a chance on our power play, then they buried it on us,” coach Luke Richardson said. “And that's where we got to get a little better, to take advantage of the chances that we do get.”

One of the issues for Chicago is the team's inability to score. They are next to last in the NHL in goals per game averaging just 2.5 goals. Veteran Patrick Kane leads the team with just 13 points thus far. The Blackhawks are also next to last in the league in shots per game as well. They are allowing 3.13 goals per game thus far and, as a team, have a .912 save percentage, good for 10th in the league. Off since Wednesday, expect Soderblom to get another start in net with #1 goalie Alex Stalock still out with a concussion.

Key Injuries: Stalock joins D Seth Jones and C Tyler Johnson on IR.
