Yankees win vs. Rangers would result in MLB record five 100-victory teams; Aaron Judge not in lineup and Triple Crown unlikely

The Major League Baseball record for 100-win teams in a season is four, which happened in 2019 when the New York Yankees, Cleveland, Houston and Los Angeles Dodgers all reached the century mark. Entering today's final day of the 2022 regular season there are also four,'and if the New York Yankees win at the Texas Rangers (both are -110), we would have a record of five. Aaron Judge is not in the lineup after hitting his AL-record 62nd homer on Tuesday.

The Dodgers le ad the majors with 110 wins, the Astros have 105, the Braves 101 and the Mets 100 — the poor Mets have had one of their best-ever seasons and still have to play in the Wild Card series, starting Friday at home against the Padres.

The Yankees at one point in the first half were on pace to potentially break the MLB record of 116 wins, but they fell off big-time early in the second half. However, they have since won 16 of their last 22 games. Their 20-8 (.734) record since Sept. 4 is tied with Houston for the second-best in the majors, trailing only Cleveland (23-7, .767).

New York really has no reason to care today and is resting several regulars including Judge. On Tuesday in the first inning of Game 2 of a doubleheader vs. the Rangers, he went yard off Jesus Tinoco for No. 62. He is the fourth player in MLB history to hit at least 62, joining Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire (twice) and Sammy Sosa (four times). Judge will be the ninth Yankee (19th time/18th season) to lead th e majors in homers.
