It’s a non-conference battle on the hardwood as a team from the Mountain West travels to take on one from the Big 12 in the Beehive State. The Wyoming Cowboys are on the road as they travel to face the #14 BYU Cougars Saturday evening. Wyoming comes in off a 78-67 road loss to UTEP in their previous contest December 21, failing to cover the line as a two-point underdog. BYU cruised to a 101-59 home win over Bellarmine in their previous contest December 22, covering the line as a 28-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, the Cougars own a 90-42 advantage and have won the last 13 meetings. That includes a 102-78 victory at home in the most recent meeting on March 5, 2011.

Wyoming had won three of their previous four games before getting stopped on the road by UTEP in their previous contest. The Cowboys enter this game 7-5 overall and hope for a road upset win ahead of opening up conference play next week. Against UTEP, Wyoming trailed by as many as six and led by as many as six in the opening half before settling for a one-point edge at halftime. The Cowboys gave up an 8-2 run in the second half to trail 43-38 with 12:29 remaining and couldn’t get closer than three after that. Wyoming was held to 34% from the field, including five of 22 from three-point range, and turned the ball over 16 times to offset hitting 28 of 32 free throws in the game. Mason Walters led the Cowboys with 16 points in the loss.

The Cowboys put up an average of 75.4 points per game this season, putting them 173rd in the nation in scoring offense. Wyoming collects 34.3 rebounds per contest while dishing out 12.2 assists per game.
