Saturday is here which means we once again have a ton of college basketball matchups to pore over, and one of the ones I'm most looking forward to is this Big Ten showdown featuring the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin will be fighting for a March Madness berth down the stretch, while Nebraska is just playing out the string at this point. Oddsmakers have the Badgers as a modest 3-point favorite here, with the total set at 127.
It hasn't exactly been a banner year for Wisconsin basketball. The Badgers enter this one at 14-9, but Kenpom has them ranked as the 64th-best team nationally. Not terrible by any means, but also not where they were hoping to be entering the year.
Last year they made the NCAA Tournament as a 3-seed, but this time around they are going to need to finish strong to make it at all. They got off to an 11-2 start, but stumbled by losing six of their past 7. However they have since won two of their past three entering this one, giving them a bit of momentum. And the one loss in that span came by just two points. As they often are, Wisconsin is a defense-first team. They rank 28th nationally in defensive efficiency according to Kenpom, and have given up 61 points or fewer in each of their past three regulation games. The Badgers spread the ball well around on offense, with four different guys averaging at least 11.3 per g ame.

And two of those guys are shooting 44% or better from three-point range. As you might expect with an experienced and disciplined team that plays tight defense, they are very careful with the ball and turn it over fewer than nine times per game. Sophomore guard Chucky Hepburn has scored at least 15 points in four straight games, and he just knocked down five triples against Penn State his last time out.
