The Green Bay Phoenix open their college basketball regular season with a visit to Iowa to play the Iowa State Cyclones. Last season Green Bay was 3-29 overall and 2-18 in Horizon League play, finishing last in the conference. Green Bay won just one of its 18 games on the road last season and ended the season with a seven-game losing skid. Iowa State was 19-14 overall and 9-9 in Big 12 play, finishing 13-4 at home.
Green Bay will be under the tutelage of new head coach Sundance Wicks. Green Bay is coming off a season in which the Phoenix won just three of 32 games and were victorious in just two of 20 Horizon League games. The Phoenix were last in the league and only can get better. Clarence Cummings III is the only starter returning from last year.
Ryan Wade, a senior guard is expected to have a big impact this season along with several transfers including Elijah Jones, who is a Junior College transfer and Noah Reynolds, a junior guard who joins the Phoenix from Wyoming. However, do not expect much change in the final outcome as Green Bay is not expected to finish any higher than 11th in the conference, which of course is last.
