William & Mary vs. Hampton Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-2-2023

William & Mary (9-14 SU, 4-6 CAA) travels about a half hour away in Virginia to meet Hampton (5-17 SU, 2-8 CAA) on Thursday night at 7pmET.

The Tribe beat the Pirates 81-65 as an 8-point favorite on Jan. 11. They've played once a year since 2015 despite being in different conference until Hampton moved to the CAA this season.

The College of William & Mary traveled to Towson, Maryland to face the Tigers last Saturday after edging Stony Brook at home 77-74 on Jan. 26. That broke a three-game losing streak, which came after they upset UNCW 69-67 on the road on Jan. 14. The significance of that win over the Seahawks was that it was their first and only road win of the season.

William & Mary's offense was fine as they scored 40 points in the first half against Towson, but they couldn't slow down the Tigers' offense in the 92-73 loss. Anders Nelson had a big game for the Tribe with 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting (5-of-6 3pt). However, W&M was missing power forward Noah Collier (6-8, 220), a Pitt transfer who was averaging 9.7 points and was leading the team with 8.7 rebounds per game.

If Collier doesn't play (not listed on injury report), the Tribre can rely on their shooting. They rank third in the CAA in field goal shooting (44.2%) and first in three-point shooting (37.6%). Their main issues are on the defensive side where they allow teams to shoot 46.4% from the field (11th) and 34.6% (8th) from long range. They also rank 10 out of 13 teams in turnover margin (-1.30).

Nelson, a transfer from St. Thomas, leads the Tribe with 11.9 points and 4.5 assists on 48.5% shooting (46.5% 3pt). Guard Gabe Dorsey adds 11.1 points on 45.5% shooting (45.6% 3pt).
