Wichita State vs. Tulane Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-26-2023

Wichita State will try to get back to the .500 mark in American Athletic Conference play when it travels to Tulane on Sunday afternoon. The Shockers had won two straight games last week prior to their loss to Memphis on Thursday. Tulane had its five-game winning streak snapped in a blowout loss to No. 1 Houston on Wednesday.

Wichita State’s season has been one of the most interesting to follow in college basketball this season. The Shockers have not strayed more than two games away from the .500 mark in either direction, and they are one game ahead of the break-even point coming into this matchup. They won back-to-back games against SMU and Temple last week before losing to Memphis by five points on Thursday. Wichita State is one game below the .500 mark in AAC play heading into the final three games of the regular season, sitting in sixth place in the standings. The Shockers are one game ahead of UCF and one game behind Temple, so there is some wiggle room in the standings.

They have not been a good offensive team this season, ranked No. 234 in effective field goal percentage. Their primary weakness has been from beyond the arc, where they are No. 348 nationally in 3-point percentage (29.4). They have been much better from close range, ranked No. 74 in 2-point percentage (52.9). Wichita State has a low turnover rate and a decent offensive rebounding percentage—it is facing a Tulane defense that is No. 103 in adjusted efficiency. Junior guard Jaykwon Walton leads Wichita State with 14.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while senior guard Craig Porter Jr. is adding 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
