The NFL's Lombardy Trophy is named after Vince Lombardi, legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers.

Vince Lombardi held several coaching jobs throughout his career, including as an assistant with the New York Giants and Army West Point.'

However, his most famous role was as coach of the Packers, where he led Green Bay to victories in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II.

Back then, it was just called the NFL Championship. But after Lombardi died in September 1970, the trophy was renamed in his honor.
