Alex Smith was the Chiefs’ quarterback in 2017 before Patrick Mahomes took over.
Mahomes was selected No. 10 overall by the Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft but did not play right away. He did not become a full-time starter until 2018.
In 2017, Smith and the Chiefs went 10-6 and won the AFC West but lost in the Wild Card round. Following the season, Smith was traded to Washington.
Mahomes took over in 2018 and has made two Super Bowl appearances since.
