Before Buck Showalter, Luis Rojas was the manager of the New York Mets.

Rojas joined the Mets’ major league coaching staff as their quality control coach for the 2019 season and was promoted to manager on Jan. 22, 2020. The Mets finished the 2020 season tied last in the NL East with a record of 26-34. Rojas stayed on as manager for the 2021 season, but after finishing with a record of 77-85, the Mets declined the option on his contract, and Showalter was announced as the Mets’ new manager on Dec. 18, 2021.

As of the 2023 season, Showalter is the winningest active manager in Major League Baseball to have never won a World Series.
