Where Is Gary Patterson Coaching?

Gary Patterson is a special assistant to the head coach at Texas.

Patterson joined Steve Sarkisian’s staff in January 2022, approximately three months after his resignation from TCU, with whom he agreed to a reported eight-figure buyout. He’s been mentioned as a potential candidate for several head-coaching vacancies over the last two years, including UNLV and Nebraska at the end of the 2022 season. (And he could be a candidate at New Mexico, where Danny Gonzales is potentially on the college football hot seat.)

Patterson, 62, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kansas State, the first of 11 different stops over four decades. He arrived at TCU as defensive coordinator in 1998 and was named head coach in December 2000.
