Washington Wizards vs. New York Knicks Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-18-2023

Washington (18-26 SU, 18-23-3 ATS, 21-20-3 O/U) travels to MSG to take on the New York Knicks (25-20 SU, 24-19-2 ATS, 23-21-1 O/U) on Wednesday night at 7:30pmET.

In the playoff picture, the Wizards are 12th in the Eastern Conference, while the Knicks rank 6th.

These teams met last Friday night in Washington with the Knicks winning 112-108 as a 4-point favorite.

Washington has lost two straight and five of their last six games. That coincides with losing All-Star guard Bradley Beal to a hamstring injury for the last five games. Beal, who is expected to return in another week, has played in just 24 games and has had two stints where he's missed time due to a hamstring injury. Beal is averaging 22.9 points per game on 52.5% shooting with 5.2 assists (34% 3pt).

So that's certainly a big loss, especially when you host Golden State on Monday. The Warriors were playing without All-Star guard Klay Thompson, but still managed to win 127-118 as a 2.5-point favorite. Seven-foot-three forward Kristaps Porzingis led the Wiz with 32 points on 9-of-15 shooting, but had just five rebounds. Washington was outrebounded by seven against a much-smaller Golden State team. It came down to defense (it always does) for the Wizards, who allowed Golden State to shoot 49% from the field and 41% (18-44) from long range. Steph Curry (41 pts) and Jordan Poole (32 pts) combined for 73 points for the Warriors.

Defensively, Washington has improved this season as they allowing teams to shoot 46.4% (7th) from the field and 36.3% (19th) from 3-point range. They also rank 15th in Defensive Ratings according to DunksandThrees.com. Offensively, they are shooting 48% from the field (9th), but just 34.4% from long range (22nd).
