Washington Nationals vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 6-28-2023

The Washington Nationals (30-48, 44-34 RL, 36-39-3 O/U) take on the Seattle Mariners (38-39, 37-40 RL, 33-38-1 O/U) in an interleague clash on Wednesday afternoon. The Nationals will send Patrick Corbin on the hill. The Mariners will counter with Logan Gilbert. The Mariners posted a dominating 8-4 victory in the opener.

Patrick Corbin will get the nod in this one. Corbin was clobbered in his latest outing, squandering seven runs against the Padres, and was charged with the loss. The veteran was decent in his first two outings this month but has not looked good since and has a 5.32 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP to go with a 4-9 record in 89.2 innings pitched on the season. Corbin allowed one run in six innings in his only career meeting against the Mariners.

The Nationals are in the middle of a difficult nine-game road trek. They actually have a better record on the road where they are only four games below .500.  The squad won two of three road bouts against the Padres this past weekend due to solid pitching. It marked their first series victory of the month. The Nats are 3-7 in their last ten games.

Joey Meneses was key in the series win against the Padres last weekend, knocking in four runs. The veteran DH hasn’t been productive this month but has 39 RBIs accompanied by a .713 OPS on the season. Meneses went 3 for 8 with one RBI against the Mariners last season and had a hit in Monday's defeat.

The Nationals are averaging 4.13 runs per game, ranking them 22nd. The pitching staff is carrying a 4.71 team ERA, pegging them 26th.
