Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-4-2022

The New York Mets, with their NL East Division hopes hanging by a thread, take on the Washington Nationals in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Mets trail the Braves by one game in the loss column with just three games to go. They can't afford a loss in either game of this doubleheader against the lowly Nationals and will need help from the Marlins to reclaim the NL East. The pitching matchup for game one will be Corey Abbott (0-4, 5.11) of the Nationals taking on Carlos Carrasco (15-7, 3.95). First pitch is scheduled for 4:10pm EST.

The Nationals will continue the long road back to redemption this offseason after dealing away superstar Juan Sota this season as well as parting with budding all-star first baseman Josh Bell. They will spend this offseason undoubtedly evaluating the talent haul they received for the duo as well as considering possible free agent acquisitions with all their freed up capital. The Nationals have won just three of their last ten games heading into this series.

Washington has a unique opportunity to be spoilers in this last series despite having 104 losses on the season. They will trot out spot starter Corey Abbott in game one of the doubleheader. Abbott has made three straight starts and is 0-2 with an ERA of 7.50 ERA. He has given up 14 hits in 12 innings of work in that time and coughed up four home runs.
