Washington Commanders vs. Cleveland Browns Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-11-2023

The Washington Commanders (0-0) will be trying to kick off their preseason with a win when they face the Cleveland Browns (1-0) on Friday night. The game will be played at Cleveland Browns Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 PM. ET.

Cleveland and Washington split their last 10 meetings.

The Commanders finished last season with an 8-8-1 record last season and finished in last place in the NFC East, after winning the division the previous season. They are hoping to make it back into the playoffs this season and will try to get their season off on the right track by snapping their three-game preseason losing streak on Friday.

Washington averaged 18.9 points per game last season. They threw for 204.2 yards per game, which was 21st in the league and ran for 126.1 yards per game. The team addressed its offensive woes in the offseason by hiring former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to coach their offense.

They also moved on from last year’s leading passer Taylor Heinicke and backup Carson Wentz in favor of second-year quarterback Sam Howell, who has been named the starter. They also signed veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to give them depth at the position.

Defensively, the Commanders played well last season, giving up 20.2 points per game, which was eighth in the league. They did a great job defending the pass and were almost as good against the run. They added depth with players like Emmanuel Forbes and Jartavius Martin, who were taken in the first two rounds of the draft and they’re hoping a bounce-back year from Chase Young will help their defense stay remain one of the best in the league.
