The Washington Capitals face the Winnipeg Jets with both teams on opposite ends of the standings to start the season. The Capitals have a 13-12-4 record but are on a three-game winning streak. The Jets have an 18-7-1 record and with four wins in a row, have leaped into first place in the Central Division. The Capitals are looking to make up ground in the Metropolitan Division while the Jets look to remain near the top of the Western Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Capitals are shown promise this season but hope the offense can step up, scoring only 2.83 goals per game. Alexander Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Evgeny Kuznetsov have combined for 25 goals and 47 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six skaters have six goals or more while only seven skaters have eight assists or more and opposing defenses can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.93 goals per game with only four goals in the last three games. Nick Jensen and Trevor van Riemsdyk have combined for 3.2 defensive point shares and 110 blocked shots while Erik Gustafsson and John Carlson have combined for 1.7 defensive point shares to give the Capitals two great defensive pairings. In addition, goaltender Charlie Lindgren has stepped up in the net with a .907 save percen tage and a 2.87 goals-against average on 313 shots.
