The Washington Capitals face the Colorado Avalanche with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Capitals have a 22-16-6 record and are in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division. The Avalanche have a 30-14-3 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they have leaped into second place in the Central Division. Both teams are looking to improve in their divisions and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

The Capitals are having a rough season with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.34 goals per game. Alexander Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Tom Wilson have combined for 36 goals and 40 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four skaters have eight goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

 

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.86 goals per game. John Carlson and Martin Fehervary have combined for 5.3 defensive point shares and 163 blocked shots while Nick Jensen, Joel Edmondson, and Trevor van Riemsdyk have combined for 4.7 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Charlie Lindgren has stepped up with a .926 save percentage and a 2.27 goals-against average on 553 shots with 12.3 goals saved above average.
