Washington Capitals vs. Colorado Avalanche Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-24-2023

Washington Capitals (25-18-6) vs. Colorado Avalanche (25-17-3)

The 2022-23 NHL betting action continues Tuesday, January 24, with the Washington Capitals taking on the Colorado Avalanche in the cross-conference showdown at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, and the puck drop is set for 9:00 PM ET.

The Capitals and Avalanche lock horns for the second and final time this regular season. Back in November, Colorado blanked Washington 4-0 as a -120 road fave. This time around, both teams have injury worries, so let’s take a closer look.

The Washington Capitals are coming off Saturday’s 6-2 defeat at the Vegas Golden Knights. They were 5-0 down before TJ Oshie scored his tenth goal of the season with 1:40 left to play in the second period. The Caps took just 22 shots toward Vegas’ goaltender and went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

Alex Ovechkin sat out the Golden Knights game due to a lower-body injury and is listed as questionable to play Tuesday against Colorado. Ovechkin has accounted for 30 goals and 22 assists in 48 appearances so far this season. TJ Oshie will miss the Avalanche game due to personal reasons, so the Capitals’ frontline might be quite shorthanded.

Darcy Kuemper yielded four goals on 18 shots in Las Vegas, while Charlie Lindgren allowed two goals on nine shots in relief. Kuemper took a loss, and the 2022 Stanley Cup champion with the Colorado Avalanche is now 14-12-4 with a 2.55 GAA and .917 save percentage in 2022-23. Darcy has recorded a whopping five shutouts so far this season. The Capitals rank tenth in the league in goals against (2.80 per game) and 15th in goals for (3.18).
