College football action on Saturday afternoon, and we will see the ACC take on the Independent ranks as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons invade Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, to grapple with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Demon Deacons enter this contest at 4-6 on the year, while the Irish come in at 7-3. These teams last met in 2018, and Notre Dame won that game on the road by a score of 56-27.

It started out well for Wake Forest, as they began the year at 3-0. But then ACC play started, and they have gone 1-6 ever since. Wake comes in off a 26-6 loss to NC State at home, their third loss in a row, and now they have to face an angry Notre Dame team that is off a bye week. Can the Demon Deacons keep this one close? Well, if they have any chance, then their offense needs to improve. Wake averaged 33.3 ppg during their 3-0 start, but they have put up just 15.0 ppg over their last seven games. Offense had not been an issue for the Demon Deacons as they have averaged at least 36 ppg in each of the last three years. A big reason for that was that they had Sam Hartman at QB, who is now behind center for Notre Dame.

Wake averaged 311 and 312 yards per game through the air the last two years, but this year, they have averaged just 199.3 yards passing per game, which is 98th in the nation. They will need much more from their passing game if they hope to keep pace with the high-scoring Irish in this one. The Wake defense is middle of the pack, ranking 65th in total yards allowed (372 ypg), but in their last three games, they have allowed 384 ypg and 30 ppg. The run defense has been an issue of late, allowing 191 ypg over their last three games, and Notre Dame has a solid ground attack. If Notre Dame gets its ground game going, then Sam Hartman will have a big game against Wake's 62nd-ranked pass defense.
