The Wake Forest Demon Deacons continued their struggles in the ACC last Saturday, losing to Florida State 41-16 to fall to 1-4 in conference play. After falling behind quickly 10-0, the Deacons put together a scoring drive to cut the gap to 10-7 but it would be all downhill from there. By halftime, the rout was on with the 4th-ranked Seminoles up 34-7 to end Wake's three-game winning streak in the long-running series.

“That is the most complete football team we have played all season,” Wake head coach Dave Clawson said after the game. “When you lose by 25, that’s not competitive. And when you look at the stats, they may be misleading as to how non-competitive it was.”

The statistics certainly weren't pretty for Wake in the one-sided affair. Offensively, quarterback Mitch Griffis completed just 6-of-16 passes for 82 yards and was sacked five times. On th e ground, the Deacons rushed for 165 yards but it took 49 carries to do so for an average of just 2.6 yards per carry. Overall, Wake gained just 210 yards of total offense without committing a turnover.

It was even worse on the defensive end for the Demon Deacons. They allowed 510 yards of total offense to the Seminoles, including 382 yards through the air. Wake had four tackles for loss in the game including one sack and failed to force a turnover in the outing.

Wake comes into this game looking to rebound after one of their worst overall performances of the season. The Demon Deacons rank just 97th in the country in total offense after eight games. They are 63rd in the nation running the football and 110th through the air. On third down, Wake is just 97th in the country in conversions and they are 88th in the red zone. On the defensive side of the ball, Wake is 88th in total defense. The Deacons are 45th against the r un and 16th against the pass. They are 79th in the nation in preventing third down conversions this season. They have been good in the red zone, ranking 34th in red zone defense. Wake is 68th in the country in sacks.

One reason for Wake's troubles has certainly been turnovers. They are a dismal 117th in the nation in turnover differential. Wake does not hurt themselves with mental mistakes, however. They are a solid 7th in the nation in penalties per game.

Injury Report: WR W. Merrill (foot) and WR I. Ver Steeg (undisclosed) are questionable. QB M. Kern (shoulder), TE G. Ellis undisclosed), LB C. Jones (concussion), OL N. Sharpe (ankle), and WR D. Greene (knee) are out.
