The VMI Keydets will head up to District and face the American Eagles in non-conference action this Monday from the Bender Arena.
VMI improved to 5-6 after defeating regional foe Radford in Lexington. The Keydets trailed as hosts at halftime, but a big second half led to their third straight victory. VMI scores 78.3 points per game, while shooting 45.1% from the field, and 37.1% from deep. Senior guard Sean Conway is thriving in a senior role, and he’s scored 20 or more in five of the last six games. Conway leads VMI in scoring (15.9) and rebounding (5.9).
American jumped to 7-2 after a win over cross-town rival George Washington. The Eagles took a six-point lead into the break and went on to finish for the upset victory, snapping a two game-skid to the Colonials. American scores 68.9 points per game, while shooting 50.4% from the floor, and 34.7% from deep. The Eagles play through the frontcourt of Matt Rogers (13.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and Johnny O’Neill (12.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg).
