The Virginia Tech Hokies, out of the ACC, will battle the 23rd-ranked Tulane Green Wave out of the AAC at the Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland. The Hokies come into this game at 6-6 on the season, closing it out with a win to earn bowl eligibility. The Green Wave are 11-2 but dropped the AAC Championship to SMU in their last game. The opening kick is scheduled for 2:00 PM EST.

After starting the season at just 1-3, there weren't too many people hopeful of a bowl season for the Virginia Tech Hokies. They would go on to finish the season on a 5-3 run and now find themselves in the Military Bowl hoping to upend a ranked opponent. Virginia Tech earned its bowl invite with a dominant 55-17 win over arch-rival Virginia to close out the season. Quarterback Kyron Drones led the way with three touchdown passes and Bhayshul Tuten not only ran for a 32-yard score but returned a kick 94 yards for another in the Hokies' 18th win in their last 19 games against Virginia.

The Hokies come into this bowl relatively intact with only tight end Dae'Quan Wright sitting this game out. He was third on the team in receptions with 28 and third in receiving yards with 366. They are led by quarterback Drones who finished the season 153-of-264 for 1994 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has only thrown three inter ceptions on the season. He is also second on the team in rushing with 642 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Tuten is the leading rusher with 727 yards and eight touchdowns. De'quan Felton and Jaylin Lane are the top receivers with 38 and 37 receptions respectively. They have a combined 14 touchdowns on the season and both average over 14 yards per catch.

Defensively, the Hokies are led by Keli Lawson's 77 tackles including six tackles for loss. He has 1.5 sacks, an interception, and five pass breakups as well. Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. is the team's most disruptive players. He has 39 tackles, 13.5 for loss and 9.5 sacks on the season. Keonta Jenkins leds the team with three interceptions on the season. As a team, the Hokies had just eight interceptions overall this season.

The Hokies come into this matchup with the 61st ranked total offense in the nation. They are 32nd rushing the ball and 82nd through the air. The Hokies are an impressive 22nd in the country in total defense this season. They are 69th against the run but an outstanding eighth against the pass. In terms of turnovers, the Hokies are 24th in giveaways, doing a good job holding onto the football. They have not been very opportunistic defensively, ranked just 106th in takeaways this season.
