The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes are 4-0 for the second straight season, and look to keep that momentum going when hosting the 2-2 Virginia Tech Hokies in both team's ACC opener on Friday night.
- This spread has more than doubled from the lookahead line at some sportsbooks given how both teams have played thus far
- Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward has set ACC records and has seen his Heisman Trophy odds shorten considerably as a result
- Miami's College Football Playoff odds have seen a massive boost since the start of the season

Even though Miami has won the last three meetings between these teams, many circled this game in the offseason as a potential key matchup in the ACC race. And while neither team has played a conference game yet, the impression based on four weeks of play is that these two teams are miles apart.
While the Hurricanes have undoubtedly looked like the better team to this point, the fact that this line is up from lookahead lines as low as -8 seems to suggest that our best college football betting sites are overcompensating too much for each team's recent play.
Ward deserves the Heisman buzz he's getting as the first ACC quarterback with at least 300 passing yards and three or more touchdowns in his first four games to start a season over the last 25 years.
But this is still a Virginia Tech team coming off a winning season that returned the most production of any FBS team. Optimists will say that the Hokies rallied from a 23-7 fourth-quarter deficit to eventually even the score before losing to Rutgers 26-23 last week.
Virginia Tech does not look like a team ready to lay down for one of its biggest conference rivals. Even though it is 1-6 SU all-time as double-digit underdogs against Miami, it is 4-2-1 ATS in those games.

- Miami best odds: -850 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 89.47%
- Virginia Tech best odds: +580 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 14.71%
There is a 30-cent gap between DraftKings' -850 and FanDuel's -880 moneyline odds for the Hurricanes.
Because of the big number, this is a situation where it would not be surprising to see more moneyline money on the underdog Hokies, with bettors taking a flier on an experienced team, while those who like Miami's chances will likely gravitate more to bets on the spread for better value.
- Miami best odds: -17 (-110) via BetMGM
- Virginia Tech best odds: +18 (-110) via Caesars
The fact that Caesars is a full one-point higher than several other sports betting sites suggests that we are not likely to see those sportsbooks at -17 move under the key number but rather are more likely to stay pat at -17 or tick up to -17.5 or higher.
Miami is 3-1 ATS, while Virginia Tech has covered just one of its four games, but sharps are likely to back the underdogs in droves at +18 or higher.
- Over best odds: 55.5 (-112) via FanDuel
- Under best odds: 56.5 (-110) via BetMGM
Compared to the moneyline and point spread, the total is the number most likely to move in support of the Over. Miami's 209 points are the most through the first four games of a season in the school's history, and the Hurricanes have also scored 50-plus points in three consecutive games for the first time in program history.
