The Boise State Broncos are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies with the winner advancing to the semifinals. Boise State comes in off an 85-68 road loss to Clemson in their previous contest Sunday afternoon, failing to cover the line as a 5.5-point underdog. Virginia Tech cruised to a 98-76 home triumph over Wofford Sunday, covering the line as an 18-point favorite. This marks the first time that the two programs have met on the floor as Division I opponents.

Boise State was shut down by Clemson in the second half on the road Sunday afternoon and ended up suffering their first loss of the season. The Broncos fell to 2-1 on the year and look to get back on track as they face a second straight ACC foe. Against Clemson, Boise State trailed by as many as nine in the first half and cut the deficit to three at halftime before running out of steam. The Broncos were outscored 27-12 in the first 11-plus minutes of the second half to trail 68-50 with 8:32 remaining and never got back in the game. Boise State shot 39.3% from the field, including seven of 23 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 40-25. Chibuzo Agbo led the Broncos with 18 points in the loss.

The Broncos are 217th in the nation in scoring offense as they average 73.3 points per game on the year. Boise State is 97th in rebounding with 40 boards a night and stands 286th by handing out 11 assists per contest. The Broncos are 105th in the country in scoring defense as they allow an average of 66 points per game this season. Chibuzo Agbo leads the team with 17.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest this season. Tyson Degenheart (12 points, 3.5 boards) and Max Rice (9.7 points, 2.7 rebounds) are capable scoring options for the Broncos. O’Mar Stanley (12 points, five rebounds), Cam Martin (10 points, eight rebounds), RJ Keene, Andrew Meadow, Jace Whiting, Kobe Young and Roddie Anderson III are important contributors in the Boise State rotation for coach Leon Rice. Boise State shoots 42.5% from the field as a team on the season. The Broncos connect on five three-pointers a night while shooting 24.2% as a team from beyond the arc. Boise State is a mediocre team at the free throw line as they knock down 68.8% of their attempts at the line this season.
