A pair of teams from the Pacific Division take the ice in search of a victory up in the Emerald City. The Vegas Golden Knights are on the road as they travel to face the Seattle Kraken Saturday night. Vegas comes in off a 1-0 home victory over Chicago Thursday night in their most recent contest. Seattle bounced back from an overtime loss to Anaheim as they took down the Kings 4-1 on the road Thursday night in their previous contest. In the previous meetings between the teams, Vegas has won all four matchups, including a 5-2 road triumph in the most recent matchup back on April 1, 2022.

Vegas had their issues getting the puck past a Chicago team that was deficient in that department in their opener but still skated away with the victory. The Golden Knights stand 2-0-0 on the season and entered Friday atop the Pacific Division standings. Vegas entered Friday’s action 22nd in the league in goals for at 2.50 goals per contest on the season. The Golden Knights are 5th in the league in goals against as they give up an average of 1.50 goals per game this season. Vegas is tied for 21st in power play success as they cash in on 12.5% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Golden Knights are tied for the top spot in the league in penalty killing in the early going as they have yet to surrender a power play goal, giving them a 100% penalty kill rate.

Against Chicago, offense was an afterthought, but Vegas came up with the only goal they need ed to prevail Thursday. Of course, it was the only goal of the game period but let’s not quibble about such trivial things. The opening period saw Vegas outshot 10-9 with neither team denting the twine, keeping things scoreless after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, the Golden Knights controlled play, outshooting Chicago 18-8 and scoring the lone goal of the period to take a 1-0 lead after two periods. Paul Cotter scored his first goal of the season at the 8:44 mark off an assist from Zach Whitecloud to give Vegas the advantage. In the third period, Vegas held a 10-9 edge in shots with neither team scoring, leaving the Golden Knights with the slim margin of victory. Logan Thompson made 27 saves for the Golden Knights, who held a 37-27 advantage in shots on goal, in the shutout victory. He’s expected to get the call between the pipes again here.
