The Vegas Golden Knights face the San Jose Sharks with both teams heading into the season with different expectations. The Golden Knights are the defending Stanley Cup Champions and made a statement on opening night with a 4-1 victory. The Sharks were one of the worst teams in the NHL last season and hope that the rebuild starts to make a rebound this year. Both teams are looking to start out strong in the Pacific Division and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

The Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup with a well-rounded team and the offense picked up where it left off, scoring four goals in the first game after averaging 3.26 goals per game last season. Jack Eichel and Chandler Stephenson combined for 43 goals and 88 assists last season and led the scoring with two goals and an assist but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Mark Stone, Ivan Barbashev, and Jonathan Marchessault combined for two goals and two assists while defenseman Brayden McNabb added an assist from the blue line to help open up the offense.

The offense looked great but the defense, which allowed only 2.74 goals per game last season, stepped up as well, allowing only one goal on opening night. Alex Pietrangelo led the unit with 26:00 ice time and two blocked shots but the rest of the unit was great as well with Brayden McNabb, Nicolas Hague, and Shea Theodore creating turnovers in all three zones and eliminating shooting lanes. Additionally, goaltender Adin Hill was remarkable in the opening night win, saving 32 of the 33 shots he faced.
