The Vegas Golden Knights are on the road as they make the trip to face the Montreal Canadiens Saturday night. Vegas comes in off a 5-4 road win over Ottawa Thursday night in their most recent contest. Montreal was dropped 3-2 in overtime on the road by Winnipeg Thursday night in their previous game. In the previous 10 meetings between the teams, the Golden Knights own a 4-2-4 advantage, including a 4-3 overtime win at home in the most recent meeting on January 20, 2022.

Vegas jumped out in front early against Ottawa but had to weather the storm in order to come up with a victory to run their win streak to six games. The Golden Knights entered Friday 10-2-0 on the season and held a six-point lead over Edmonton and Seattle for the top spot in the Pacific Division standings. Vegas entered Friday’s action 11th in the league in goals for at 3.33 goals per contest on the season. The Golden Knights are 1st in the league in goals against as they give up an average of 1.92 goals per game this season. Vegas is 17th in power play success as they cash in on 21.1% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Golden Knights are 17th in the league in penalty killing in the early going as have successfully navigated through 78.6% of their shorthanded situations on the season.

Against Ottawa, a hot start gave the Golden Knigh ts control of the game but they nearly gave it away down the stretch. Vegas was outshot 16-13 in the opening period but they skated to the dressing room with a 3-1 advantage after 20 minutes of play. Mark Stone opened the scoring just 1:22 into the game with an unassisted goal, his fourth of the season. After Ottawa tied the game, Reilly Smith gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead with his third goal of the season, on the power play, at 9:19 with assists going to William Karlsson and Phil Kessel. Zach Whitecloud made it a 3-1 game with his first of the year at 19:28 off assists from Stone and Jack Eichel. In the second period, Vegas was outshot 19-9 with each team scoring twice, leaving them ahead 5-3 after 40 minutes. Chandler Stephenson made it 4-1 with his fifth goal of the year, shorthanded, at 5:15 off an assist from Nicolas Roy. William Carrier extended to a 5-1 advantage with his third of the year, unassisted, at the 10:14 mark of the period. The Golden Knights gave up a pair of goals to trim the margin to 5-3 at the second intermission. In the third period, Vegas was outshot 11-10 and gave up the lone goal of the stanza but managed to hang on for the victory. Logan Thompson made 42 saves for the Golden Knights, who were outshot 46-32, in the win. Adin Hill is currently expected to get the start in goal for this contest.
