VCU vs. Davidson Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-31-2023

VCU will be looking to bounce back from its second conference loss of the season when it travels to Davidson on Tuesday night. The Rams had their six-game winning streak snapped in a 61-58 loss to St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Davidson has lost five of its last six games, including a 74-70 setback against Saint Louis on Friday.

VCU got off to a slow start this season when it went 5-4 through its first nine games, but it responded by winning 11 of its next 12 games. The Rams’ lone loss during that stretch came at Duquesne on Jan. 4, but they responded by winning six consecutive games. They only had one of those six games decided by single digits, putting them in a tie atop the Atlantic 10 standings. However, they fell to second place in the conference when they lost to St. Bonaventure by three points on Saturday. VCU was an 11.5-point favorite in that game, so it was a very disappointing way to have its winning streak snapped.

The Rams have struggled offensively due to their carelessness, ranked No. 328 of 363 Division I teams in turnover rate. They have been decent as far as shooting the ball, knocking down 35.1% of their 3-pointers and 51.9% of their 2-pointers. VCU has not been rebounding the ball well, listed outside the top 200 in offensive rebounding. It is facing a Davidson defense that is No. 159 in KenPom’s adjusted efficiency ratings. Junior guard Adrian Baldwin Jr. leads VCU with 12.1 points, 6.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. Senior forward Brandon Johns Jr. (12.1) and sophomore forward Jamir Watkins (10.0) are both scoring in double digits as well.
