Conference musical chairs will be in full effect these next couple of years and on Saturday, two teams meet that are among those that are switching conferences square off. In this battle, the Houston Cougars, formerly of the American Athletic Conference, will play their first game as a member of the Big 12 when they take on the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners. UTSA, formerly of Conference USA, takes Houston's place and is now in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Kickoff is Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at John O'Quinn Field at TDECU Stadium in Houston.

The UTSA Roadrunners spent last season in Conference USA where they finished 11-3 and were a perfect 8-0 in the conference to win it. They averaged nearly 37 points per game, 14th in the country, and gave up about 26 points per game, 61st in the country. They should be good again in their new conference, the AAC, as a lot of key pieces are back, starting with quarterback Frank Harris. Harris completed 70% of his passes and threw for a ridiculous 4,036 yards a year ago with 32 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

The leading receiver last year, Zachary Franklin, bolted for Ole Mis, but Harris has two excellent receivers to throw to in Cephus, who caught 87 passes for 985 yards last year, and De’Corian Clark, who caught 51 for 741 yards. They also have back the leading rusher from last year, Kevorian Barnes, who gained with 845 yards and scored 6 times. Harris also can run, gaining 602 yards and scoring 9 times on the ground in 2022. Clark is listed as questionble for this game.
