UTEP at Texas – 11/7/22 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The UTEP Miners will play the Texas Longhorns in a non-conference game on Monday night at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

The UTEP Miners went 20-14 (11-7) last season, which was tied for fifth in the Conference-USA standings. UTEP picked up a win against Old Dominion in the CUSA tournament, but lost to Middle Tennessee by a score of 66-59. UTEP also played in the Basketball Classic, where they defeated Western Illinois, but lost to Southern Utah. UTEP lost their top three scorers from last season, but brought in six transfers to fill the void. Of the six transfers, five of them came from Division One programs. It will be interesting to see how UTEP does without those leading scorers and I expect them to have a slow start the season.

The Texas Longhorns went 22-12 (10-8) last season and finished fourth in the Big 12 standings. Texas lost to TCY in the Big 12 Tournament by a score of 65-60 and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Purdue by a score of 81-71. Texas lost three players that averaged at least 8.7 points per game, but brought in two transfers. One of the transfers is Tyrese Hunter, who averaged 11 points per game with Iowa State last season. Texas does not have as high of expectations that they did last season, but still should be able to compete for the top spot in the Big 12.
