Utah State at UNLV Prediction – Basketball Picks 3/1/23

The Utah State Wildcats will head down to Vegas to face the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels in Mountain West play from the Thomas & Mack Center on the CBSSN. UNLV leads the all-time series, 34-13, but USU has won the last four meetings.

Utah State improved to 22-7 after defeating Wyoming in Laramie. The Aggies pulled away with a strong second half performance to beat the Cowboys by ten, 65-55. USU is scoring 78.4 points per game, while allowing 68.8 ppg, and shooting 43.9% from the field.

Utah State responded to a two-skid by winning their last two at home, and they’ll look to close the season strong in hopes of a bid to the Big Dance. The Aggies are 10-5 in MWC play, with a 4-4 road record. The Aggies are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country, and they carry five double digit scorers. Junior guard Steven Ashworth led the team with 20 points in the win over Nevada last week, and he leads USU in scoring (15.9) and assists (4.5). The Aggies start veterans Taylor Funk and Dan Akin in the front court. Funk scored 20 points in the first win over UNLV, and he averages 13.2 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Akin plays with a high motor, and leads the team in rebounding (7.1), while scoring 12.0 ppg. Veteran guards Spencer Bairstow (10.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Max Shulga (11.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.0 apg) round out the USU lineup.
