SGP predictions for USC vs. LSU
Our premise with this leg of the SGP buys into defensive adjustments for both programs after sporting defense-optional philosophies a year ago.
USC replaced defensive coordinator Alex Grinch with UCLA's D'Anton Lynn, while LSU made former Missouri DC Blake Baker the highest-paid assistant coach in college football.
Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels are leading NFL franchises now. As both Garrett Nussmeier and Miller Moss lit up the scoreboard in their respective bowl game starts to end last season, the public seems to be anticipating a high-flying affair in Vegas.
The total opened at 62.5 and is moving steadily in our favor, now up to 66. I like the Under as a five-star play at 66, and I only like it more each time the market pushes the number higher.
Though LSU saw the bulk of its offense depart after last se ason, Brian Kelly's recruiting has been top-notch in restocking the shelves. Kyren Lacy appears to be next in line to lead this wide receiver room, but the depth goes well beyond him.
Of the two newly installed coordinators, I'm backing Baker to win the race to turn around his team's defense first. He helped Missouri become a strong unit last year and should work wonders with the LSU talent pool.
Of our best sportsbooks, DraftKings and Caesars currently offer the best value on this spread. Both feature LSU -4, with DK's odds (-108) providing an edge over Caesars (-115). FanDuel and BetMGM both list the Tigers -4.5.
In what should be a competitive affair, the game script should see Garrett Nussmeier throwing with regularity.
Nussmeier will establish more of a pocket-passing presence to LSU's offense than the version employed by Jayden Daniels last season. LSU has the receiv ing talent to open things up against a team whose revamped pass defense has a ways to go from last year's 93rd-ranked unit.
The line on Nussmeier's yards sits at 278.5. Though the odds on the individual prop are -145, Caesars' formula for an SGP makes it far-and-away the most profitable place to bet this parlay. The parlay checks in at +850, providing a massive edge over comparable parlays at DraftKings (+700) and FanDuel (+738).
