The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the world when they acquired Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in a blockbuster deal on Thursday. Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Agbaji, along with three draft picks and two pick swaps, went the other way in a move that shows the Cavaliers are all-in on pursuing a championship.
Mitchell's top-tier scoring ability undoubtedly makes Cleveland a better team. The 25-year-old shooting guard averaged 25.9 points on .448/.355/.853 shooting in 67 games for the Jazz last year while also averaging 5.3 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game en route to a career-high 7.2 win shares.
Nevertheless, acquiring Mitchell wasn't enough to make Cleveland a championship favorite. Instead, FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds still have the Boston Celtics as +500 favorites to lift the 2023 trophy.
As for the Cavaliers, they're tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves at +3300 for the 13th-best title odds. While those odds are far from the best, Mitchell's presence ha s already had a significant impact on Cleveland's odds, which were at +12000 (T-No. 19) back in July.
