The Rebels and Cougars lock horns for the first time since 1973 when UNLV beat Washington State 58-47. It’s the neutral-site showdown, though the Rebels play in their backyard.

The UNLV Rebels (9-0; 5-3 ATS) extended their winning streak to nine games this past Wednesday. They beat the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 77-62 as 8-point favorites at Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada. The Rebels stormed the front, building a 19-point halftime lead. They held Hawaii to 35.5% shooting from the field and 20.7% from downtown (6-for-29) while going 8-for-18 from beyond the arc and 23-for-28 from the charity stripe. 

Senior guard Luis Rodriguez dropped 18 points on the Warriors to go with seven rebounds and a couple of steals. Sophomore guard Keshon Gilbert had 13 points and four assists, while senior G Elijah Harkless added ten points and four boards. 

UNLV is No. 38 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 76 in the KenPom rankings. The Rebels lean on their sturdy defense, surrendering 92.8 points per 100 possessions (33rd in the country) on 38.0% shooting from the field (28th) and 31.3% from beyond the 3-point line (124th). According to Bart Torvik, UNLV’s defense ranks second in the nation in turnover percentage (29.3%). On the other side of the ball, the Rebels tally 102.7 points per 100 possessions (155th) on 45.5% shooting from the field (149th) and 36.7% from beyond the arc (84th).
