UNLV Rebels (2-1) vs. UTEP Miners (1-3)
Week 4 of the 2023 college football season brings some very interesting non-conference matchups, including the battle between the Rebels and Miners at Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, so we have prepared the best UNLV vs. UTEP betting pick and odds.
The Rebels meet the Miners for the first time since 2018 when UNLV beat UTEP 52-24 as a 22-point home fave. This time around, the Rebels are 2.5-point road favorites, while the totals are listed at 50.0 points.
The UNLV Rebels moved to 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS on the young season following a 40-37 home victory to the Vanderbilt Commodores in Week 3. The Rebels erased a 17-0 deficit, while Jose Pizano’s 36-yard field goal with five seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter lifted UNLV over Vanderbilt.
UNLV racked up 403 total yards against the Commodores. The Rebels yielded 420 yards in return but held Vanderbilt to just 83 rushing yards on 38 carries. They committed ten penalties for 64 yards, and the Rebels will have to improve their discipline in the upcoming weeks.
“What a great win. We joked for just a second in the locker room — it’s just like we drew it up,” UNLV first-year head coach Barry Odom said< span style="font-weight: 400">. “I was impressed with the mental toughness, the resolve, the ability for our kids to continue to make plays in, really all three phases of the game.”
Junior signal-caller Doug Brumfield suffered an undisclosed injury last Saturday and had to exit in the first quarter. He was replaced by redshirt freshman Jayden Maiava, who went 19-of-33 for 261 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Freshman running back Jai’Den Thomas had 13 totes for 50 yards and a TD, while junior wideout Ricky White posted 12 receptions for 165 yards. Brumfield was limited in Monday’s practice but is expected to suit up for the Week 4 clash against UTEP.
“I feel like there’s no fall-off between our QBs, really,&# x201D; White said. “Jayden is young, but he’s also mature at the QB position. I feel I have the same chemistry I do with Doug, with Jayden.”
