UL Monroe vs. Alabama Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-17-2022

Louisiana Monroe will face No. 2 Alabama for the second time since the Warhawks pulled off a shocking win over Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide in 2007. They were 24.5-point underdogs in that game, but the spread is twice as large this time around. Alabama notched a 34-0 victory as a 37.5-point favorite when these teams met in 2015.

Louisiana Monroe is no stranger to facing high-level programs, as the Warhawks have been collecting checks in this type of situation for decades. They lost to Kentucky by 35 points and to LSU by 13 points last season, and they also opened their 2022 campaign with a 52-10 loss at Texas two weeks ago. Louisiana Monroe bounced back from that loss with a 35-7 win over Nicholls State last weekend, as its offense had much more success than it did against the Longhorns. The Warhawks fell behind by a touchdown early in the game, but they scored 35 unanswered points after that to take control.

Quarterback Chandler Rogers completed 20 of 25 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding 55 rushing yards and another touchdown on eight carries. Wide receiver Jevin Frett was Rogers’ top target, hauling in six passes for 71 yards and a score. Rogers, a sophomore, went 14 of 19 for 108 yards and an interception against Texas, getting sacked three times. The Warhawks had trouble getting their rushing attack going against the Longhorns, turning 41 carries into just 92 yards. They are facing an Alabama defense that is allowing just 253.5 yards of total offense per game.
