UCSB Gauchos (18-4) vs. Long Beach State Beach (14-10)

Week 14 of the 2022-23 NCAA men’s basketball season is in full swing on Thursday, February 9, when the UCSB Gauchos take on the Long Beach State Beach at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California in this Big West Conference clash.

This is the first meeting between these two teams this season. The teams split the two games last year, and have split the last four meetings with the home team winning all four contests. Neither a total nor a line was set when this analysis was written.

The UCSB Gauchos (18-4, 13-7-0 ATS) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end when they lost to CSUN on Saturday, 72-67. The loss dropped the Gauchos to 7-3 on the road, actually snapping their seven-game road winning streak. UCSB has failed to cover the spread in their last two contests, but are 5-3 ATS in their last eight.

The Gauchos struggled in this contest, hitting 32.8% of their shots, including going 6-27 from three-point range. They trailed CSUN by just one point at the half, but simply could not get into a rhythm as CSUN came out of the locker room and quickly extended their lead to seven before hanging on for the five-point victory. Miles Norris led the team with 17 points, hitting five of his 10 shots. He added nine rebounds. Andre Kelly had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.

Santa Barbara is averaging 107.8 points per 100 possessions (118th) while allowing 104.8 points per 100 possessions (102nd). UCSB is ranked 101st in the KenPom ranking. The club is averaging 70.5 points per game, but runs a very methodical offense, ranked 16th in shooting percentage at 48.7%. They are 22nd in the nation in points allowed per game (62.4), and those numbers have been even better within the Big West Conference, where the team is allowing 60.2 points per game. The Gauchos are hitting 49.6% of their shots in conference play.
