It’s a battle of Big West programs on the hardwood as a pair of teams lock up in search of a victory in the Hawaiian Islands. The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are on the road as they make the trip out west as they take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Thursday night. UC Santa Barbara was edged 73-69 at home by CSU Fullerton Saturday, losing outright as a seven-point favorite, in their previous contest. Hawaii was downed 67-61 on the road by UC San Diego Saturday, failing to cover the line as a 4.5-point underdog, in their previous game. In the all-time series between the programs, the Gauchos own a 15-9 advantage and have won the last three meetings. That includes an 81-61 home win in the most recent matchup on March 4, 2023.

UC Santa Barbara saw their four-game win streak snapped as they were downed by CSU Fullerton at home Saturday night in their previous game. The Gauchos improved to 11-7 overall and stand sixth in the Big West standings with a 4-4 mark in conference play. Against CSU Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara led by as many as four in the first half but found themselves down 10 at halftime. The Gauchos were down as many as 15 in the second half and climbed within two with 11 seconds remaining: they were unable to finish the comeback. UC Santa Barbara shot 46.9% from the field, including eight of 22 from three-point range, and held a 30-28 edge on the glass only to fall short. Cole Anderson led the Gauchos with 19 points in the loss.

The Gauchos are averaging 78.7 points per game, which is 76th in the country, so far this season on the offensive end of the floor. UC Santa Barbara pulls down 37.4 boards per contest (115th) while handing out an average of 15.1 assists (87th) per night. The Gauchos are below average defensively, ranking 225th in the nation by allowing 73 points a game on the year.
