The UCSB Gauchos will make the two-hour trip to Long Beach to face the LBSU Beach in Big West from the Walter Pyramid on ESPNU. LBSU and UCSB have faced off 110 times, and Long Beach leads the all-time series, 65-45.
UC-Santa Barbara fell to 18-4 following a road loss to CSU Northridge. The Gauchos and Matadors traded leads throughout, but CSUN would pull away late with the five-point win. UCSB is scoring 70.5 points per game, while allowing 62.4 ppg, and shooting 48.7% from the floor.
UCSB has won twelve of their last fourteen games despite the loss to the Matadors, and they still have a good chance of representing the Big West this spring. UCSB is 9-2 in Big West play, with a strong 7-3 road record. The inside-out duo of Miles Norris and Ajay Mitchell. Norris, a 6’10 senior, has been their most consistent player on both sides of the ball, and the third-year starter is averaging career-bests of 13.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Mitchell, a 6’5 sophomore, will look to respond after going for a season-low seven points in the loss to CSUN, and he leads UCSB in scoring (15.5) and assists (4.7). Cal transfer Andre Kelly dodged a bullet migrating to Santa Barbara, and after double-doubling in the against Northridge, he’s up to 9.1 ppg and 6.4 rpg.
