UC Riverside Highlanders (1-3) vs. Montana State Bobcats (2-2) 

The 2023-24 college basketball season goes on Wednesday, November 22, with the UC Riverside Highlanders squaring off against the Montana State Bobcats in the non-conference battle at Worthington Arena in Bozeman, Montana.  

The Highlanders meet the Bobcats for the first time since 2013 when UC Riverside defeated Montana State 72-67. UC Riverside aims for its fourth consecutive victory over the Bobcats, so let’s take a closer look.

Tuesday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 1-3 UC Riverside Highlanders played Green Bay at Worthington Arena, looking to snap their three-game skid. The Highlanders finished the opening week of the season with a couple of losses against Utah 82-53 and Portland 76-65. Last Friday, they were beaten by No. 20 North Carolina 77-52. 

UC Riverside was a massive 23.5-point underdog at Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill. The Highlanders made just 30.6% of their field goals (9-for-30 from deep) while turning the ball over 17 times against one of the best teams in the country. Junior center Benjamin Griscti led the Highlanders with 14 points, and freshman guard Barrington Hargress added ten points and five assists. 

The Highlanders returned 45.6 percent of minutes and just 32.4 percent of scoring from their 2022-23 roster. They are No. 263 in the KenPom rankings, scoring 96.5 points per 100 possessions (307th in the country) and surrendering 103.9 points in return (176th). UC Riverside ranks 267th in the nation in pace (67.7 possessions per 40 minutes).
