UC Irvine vs. Cal Poly Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-20-2023

It's a President's Day clash in the Big West as the Cal Poly Mustangs host the UC Irvine Anteaters on Monday, Cal Poly is last in the Big West at 7-21 overall and 1-5 in the Big West while UC Irvine is first in the conference at 19-8 overall and 12-3 in the conference. But in their previous meeting on Feb. 9, the Mustangs gave Irvine all they could handle, losing by just one 55-54 as a 13.5 point underdog. Can they pull off the upset at home this time around?

UC Irvine has been bulldozing through the competition in the Big West this season as they lead the conference at  19-8 overall and 12-3 in the conference. But they cannot rest on their laurels because they have UC Santa Barbara (11-4) and UC Riverside (11-5) breathing down their necks. But they have won 4 straight and beat both of those teams in that stretch.

Their last win came on Saturday as they squeaked past UC Davis at home, 78-76. Dawson Baker led the Anteaters with 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the floor. He drained two three pointers. DJ Davis also scored 18 points while 7 footer Bent Leuchten chipped in with 14 points. “Really excited to finish the game and come out ahead. Guys made plays and clutch free throws as well as stops to get back in the game and earn the win. I give UC Davis credit. They had a great competitive spirit in the second half,” Anteaters coach Russell Turner said, reported UC Irvine Sports.
