UAB Blazers (4-3) vs. Florida Atlantic Owls (3-5)

Week 9 of the 2022 college football season brings the Conference USA showdown between UAB and Florida Atlantic at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, so here’s the best Blazers vs. Owls betting pick along with the latest odds update.

At the time of writing, the Blazers were listed as 6-point road favorites with a total of 48.0 points. Last season, UAB trounced Florida Atlantic 31-14 as a 3.5-point home fave, and the game went under the total of 49.0 points.

The UAB Blazers (4-3; 3-4 ATS; 2-2 conf.) are coming off a 20-17 defeat at the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in Week 8. Playing as small 1.5-point road dogs, the Blazers failed to extend their winning streak to three games, while junior signal-caller Dylan Hopkins went 2-for-2 for 63 yards and a touchdown before exiting due to a concussion. Jacob Zeno was 3-of-10 for 33 yards, a TD, and an interception in relief, and the Blazers finished with four turnovers.

“When Zeno came in, I wanted to make it comfortable on him early and get him in a flow and get him comfortable,” UAB head coach Bryant Vincent said. “It’s different when you’re coming in, just for a series, than when you’re coming in and you’re the guy, on the road, in that environment, against that defense. I thought that Zeno came in, he did a great job of leading the offense, he did a great job of controlling the huddle, of making good decisions. We’ve got three road losses and we’ve got 10 turnovers in our road losses. That falls on me.”

Junior RB DeWayne McBride led the charge for UAB against Western Kentucky, notching 197 yards on 24 rushing attempts. McBride has 975 yards and 11 touchdowns on 140 carries this season, while Jermaine Brown Jr. added 433 yards and three scores on 73 totes. The Blazers are scoring 32.0 points per game (tied-49th in the country) on 189.9 passing yards (108th) and 241.1 rushing yards (8th).

On the other side of the ball, UAB ranks 18th in the nation in points against (17.7 per game). The Blazers are yielding 169.3 passing yards (tied-8t h) and 154.6 rushing yards per contest (82nd).
