Tulsa Golden Hurricane (0-0) vs. Oregon State Beavers (0-0)

The 2022-23 NCAA men’s basketball schedule gets underway on Monday, November 7, 2022, as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane take on the Oregon State Beavers at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon.

These teams have met three times in the last seven seasons with the Golden Hurricane winning the last two, including a 64-58 victory over the Beavers in November 2021. Oregon State has been favored in each of the three meetings but failed to cover the spread in the last two. Tulsa was 11-20 last season while Oregon State was 3-28, including losing their final 18 games of the season.

After a disappointing 11-20 season, the Golden Hurricane opted to go in a different direction, bringing in new head coach Eric Konkol. Konkol spent the last seven seasons at Louisiana Tech where he compiled an impressive 153-75 mark, taking the team to the NIT tournament in 2021 where they finished third.

“Their intentions have been great and their effort has been really good,” the new head coach explained. “Of course, the execution piece is the one that you keep working on, and that process is going to be ongoing. There are some staples that we've implemented, there are some things that we absolutely want to be great at, there are statistical measures that we're making every day in practice and in the two scrimmages that we've had, and we've been inconsistent. We're searching for that consistency.”

Tulsa should have some success building consistency. Eight players return from last year’s team, including starters Sam Griffin and Anthony Prichard. Griffin finished second on the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game and Prichard started as the point guard his freshman season, but was sidelined for much of the year with a foot injury. The addition of Brandon Betson from Chicago State should add some scoring touch, as he averaged 14.2 ppg.
