Tuley's Takes: Tuesday Best Bets in NHL, MLB, plus early USFL pick

Monday Best Bet Results

Monday was a pretty fun day in the Tuley’s Takes home office as I was mostly getting stuff done around the house after a hectic weekend, but then had a great afternoon and night with our Best Bets.

We won our top play on the Heat +9 at the Nuggets, though it closed +8 at most books. It was a roller-coaster of a game as the Heat jumped out to a 5-0 lead, then the Nugget scored a dozen unanswered points to go up 12-5. It was fitting as it was a “zig-zag” play on the Heat and the stuck around the whole game, even leading by 10 in the second half before losing 94-89 and covering to close out the NBA season.

It was gratifying, especially after hearing so many people picking the Nuggets to close out the series and saying how the points haven’t mattered the last couple of years in the NBA playoffs.

But, my MLB bets ended up even more satisfying. I won the play (Rockies First 5 Innings +195 at Red Sox) that I gave out on my weekly appearance on “The Greg Peterson Experience” on VSiN (11:15 p.m. ET/8:15 p.m. PT each Sunday night, or 15 minutes into the archived version) as the Rockies led 1-0 after 5 innings. They also went on to win the game 4-3 as a “swagger play” at +210 for those who bet my plays on the full-game money line.

I didn’t list my second MLB play (Tigers First 5 vs. the Braves) as there wasn’t a line available because the Tigers hadn’t announced a starting pitcher by the time I filed yesterday’s column, but I mentioned it and played it myself. That play lost as the Braves led 3-0 after 5 innings; however, the Tigers rallied to win 6-5 in 10 innings at +215 for those who also played the full-game money line.

So, not counting the plays on the Tigers, my official plays went 2-0 on the day to get back to .500 in the month of June at 13-13-4, and the +$285.91 profit on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page, improved our profit to 1.55 units after making 15.6 units in May.

Let’s look for plays on Tuesday with the NHL Stanley Cup Finals resuming as well as a full 15-game schedule in MLB.

NHL Tuesday Best Bet

Panthers +165 at Golden Knights: I hinted at this on Sunday night, but I feel even stronger on it now as the line has been creeping higher with the uncertain status of Matthew Tkachuk for Florida. He’s a great player, but not sure he’s worth this much to the money line. The Panthers are still in the zig-zag role after losing the last game (actually the last two), and even though the Golden Knights won their two home games in routs, we still expect the Panthers to put up a fight as they try to extend the series. Now, this could be called an emotional hedge as I’m cheering inside for VGK to bring Lord Stanley’s Cup to my adopted hometown, but I feel this is the right play for Tuesday’s Game 5.

MLB Tuesday Best Bets

Tigers First 5 Innings +230 vs. Braves: Emboldened by cashing two MLB dogs in excess of 2-1 on Monday, I have two more on Tuesday. The Monday bet on the Tigers was actually an “anti-swagger” play against the Braves after their 7-game winning streak was snapped, but now the Tigers are in the “swagger” role after Monday’s win snapped their own 9-game losing streak. It’s tough to fade Atlanta’s Spencer Strider (6-2, 3.79 ERA), but hopefully Reese Olson (0-1, 2.70 ERA) keeps it closer early and the momentum from the Tigers’ win carries over at least in the early innings.
