Tuley's Takes Today: Tuesday betting recaps, updated MLB stats, Wednesday picks 7/27

Tuesday was a busy work day but ended with a lot of fun. After staying up late to file yesterday’s column, I had to get up early to work on my column for Points Spread Weekly. Then, I was busy helping proof VSiN’s CFB Betting Guide.

But then it was time to play. Last year, I proxied for my longtime friend Tony (aka DURBIFY), who won the Circa Sports Million. He drove into town to sign up for this year’s contest as well as Circa Survivor. He was staying with his family at the Delano hotel next to Mandalay Bay, but Jeffrey Benson at Circa Sports still sent a limo to pick us up and transport us downtown. We had a great time hanging out with Michael Sax (aka MYCOOL), who was one of the five Circa Survivor winners last season, and then had dinner at Barry’s Prime (lobster bisque and bone-in ribeye for those curious).

Life is good.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for my MLB picks lately. Heck, I couldn’t even win with the best team in baseball, the Yankees, at pick-’em in the 1st 5 innings. I thought I was in great shape as the Yankees scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but the Mets responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st and led 5-3 after 5 innings on the way to a 6-3 victory. At least the Yankees scored some runs unlike a lot of my other recent picks, including my only other bet of the night on the Phillies 1st 5 as they trailed 5-0 to the Braves on the way to a 6-3 loss.

Let’s recap the rest of the Tuesday MLB card and then look for plays on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s recaps

MLB: Faves went just 8-7 Tuesday with the biggest upset by Nationals for the 2nd straight day (+ 210 in their 8-3 win at Dodgers late Tuesday night). Other big upsets were by the Diamondbacks (+ 170 in 7-3 win vs. Giants), Orioles (+ 164 in 5-3 win vs. Rays) and A’s (+ 144 in 5-3 win vs. Astros). Home teams also led 8-7. Overs dominated at 11-4.

More MLB: Faves lead 863-574 SU (60.1 percent) on the season with 24 pick-'ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace, gap had been narrowing but back above 60 percent). Home teams lead just 763-698 (52.2 percent, but usually closer to 54 percent). Unders lead 716-676-67 (51.4 percent).
