Saturday Best Bet recaps
Saturday was a fun day following all my sports and horse racing action. It wasn’t a winning day, but it wasn’t too bad as I cashed enough small horse racing tickets to cut my overall losses.
As for my Best Bets here, I went 0-1-1 with my official plays as I pushed on my top play on the Cubs First 5 Innings +100 vs. the Cardinals as they were tied 5-5 after 5 innings. We’ve been talking recently about if we should be betting First 3 lines instead, but in this case it was also a push as it was tied 3-3 through 3. The Cubs did end up winning the game 8-6 for those who prefer to bet my picks on the full-game moneyline. I got stuck with a loss on the Rockies First 5 Innings +130 at the Marlins as Miami led 3-0 through 5 innings. In this case, you also lost if you bet the First 3, but again our pick rallied to win the game 4-3. Our posted plays dropped to 16-26-2 in July for a net loss of $685 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page. Again, the streaky nature of our plays has lended itself to having parlays or round-robins being more profitable (or cutting losses). We’ll see if that continues. Pirates First 5 Innings +110 at Angels: This is a “mini anti-swagger” game against the Angels as their 4-game winning streak was snapped in the 3-0 loss to the Pirates on Saturday. I also like the matchup with Pittsburgh’s Mitch Keller (9-5, 3.73 ERA) vs. LA’s Tyler Anderson (4-2, 5.17 ERA).
Guardians First 5 Innings +120 vs. Phillies: Is Xzavion Curry a reliever, a starter, or a “starter.” He’s been effective (3-0, 2.86 ERA) in whatever role and Cleveland likes him in this role (he pitched 3 shutout innings the other night to lead an 11-0 win vs. the Pirates) as this should be another “bullpen game.” I know I got burned by trying to fade Aaron Nola (9-6, 4.27 ERA), but I’ll do it again here as the Guardians shouldn’t be this big of a dog in this matchup.
