Friday Best Bet recaps
Friday was another busy day in the Tuley’s Takes home office, watching the British Open, plugging away on the VSiN College Football Betting Guide (due out Aug. 3), watching and wagering on MLB, and escaping the 100-degree Vegas heat in the Tuley pool and spa.
It was a rather enjoyable day, except for the wagering part as we lost both of our MLB First 5 Inning plays (actually 0-3 as we had the Pirates First 5 Innings +0.5 +110 and F5 +175 ML at the Angels). We were feeling really good about those bets when the Pirates hit two solo homers off Shohei Ohtani in the top of the 4th inning for a 2-0 lead, but the Angels responded with a 5-spot in the bottom of the inning. The Pirates tried rallying in the top of the 5th but could only get within 5-4 – and then the Angels ran up the score to lead 8-4 after 5. We also lost with Orioles First 5 +130 at the Rays as Tampa led 1-0 through 5 innings as the Orioles couldn’t get to Zach Eflin. The 0-3 day stopped our rally in its tracks as we dropped to 16-25-1 in July for a net loss of $585 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page. Note: the way we’ve been either sweeping or going 0-fer really lends itself to the round-robin/parlay approach to maximize winnings when we hit and minimizing losses when we don’t – I’m just sayin’. Cubs First 5 Innings +100 vs. Cardinals: The Cardinals are in an “anti-swagger” spot after the Cubs snapped their 6-game winning streak on Friday. We’re not too thrilled with backing Chicago’s Michael Fulmer (1-5, 4.43 ERA), but we have no problem fading Miles Mikolas (6-5, 4.14 ERA).
Rockies First 5 Innings +130 at Marlins: We’ve had success backing the Rockies since seeing them in person in San Francisco two weeks ago, but we missed them at +200 last night in their 6-1 win in Miami. Let’s get back on them at a lower price with Chase Anderson (0-4, 6.26 ERA) vs. Johnny Cueto (0-1, 9.00 ERA). Maybe Over 8.5 is the better play?
