A pair of programs from the Sun Belt take the field down in the bayou as they look to procure a victory on the gridiron. The Troy Trojans are on the road as they make the trip to face the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Saturday afternoon. Troy comes in off a bye last week: they beat South Alabama 10-6 on the road back on October 20 as a three-point underdog in their previous game. Louisiana saw their win streak come to an end at two games as they were beaten 39-24 on the road by Southern Miss last Thursday, failing to cover as a 2.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the programs, the Trojans own an 8-7 advantage though the Ragin’ Cajuns have won the last two meetings. That includes a 35-21 road win in the most recent meeting on November 13, 2021.

Troy is well rested for this game, having not played in more than two weeks by the time we get to kickoff here as they won a defensive slugfest against South Alabama on the road in their previous game. The Trojans improved to 6-2 overall and stand 4-1 in the Sun Belt’s West Division, leaving them atop the standings. Against South Alabama, offense was at a premium with the Trojans scoring the game’s lone touchdown on the opening play of the second quarter. That proved to be enough points to win the game though Troy added a fourth quarter field goal to secure the win. Troy held a narrow 266-255 advantage in total offense, picked up 16 first downs while allowing 15 and held a 33:24 to 26:36 edge in time of possession. Each team turned the ball over once in the contest.

On the season, the Trojans are 22nd in the country in passing offense with an average of 290.9 yards per game through the air and 122nd in the country in rushing offense with 91.9 yards per contest on the ground. Troy is 106th in the FBS in scoring offense with 22.5 points per game while they are 18th in the nation in scoring defense by allowing an average of 17.6 points per contest. Gunnar Watson is 126 of 197 passing for 1,745 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions on the year. Jarret Doege is 44 of 64 passing for 575 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Kimani Vidal is second on the team for Troy on the ground with 93 carries for 372 yards plus two scores this season. DK Billingsley (96 carries, team-high 472 yards, four TD) and Jamontez Woods (16 carries, 35 yards) have shared the run game duties this year. In the passing game, Jabre Barber (25 receptions, 351 yards, two TD) and Deshon Stoudemire (team-high 31 grabs, 345 yards, TD) are the top two targets in the passing attack.
