In the lone meeting between the programs, the Demon Deacons took a 74-64 win at home in the first round of the NIT on March 16, 2022.

Towson wasn’t run off the floor by #6 Houston in their quarterfinal matchup but they never made a serious run at the Cougars in the contest either. The Tigers fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss and hope to bounce back in this contest. Against Houston, Towson gave up a 24-7 run to start the game and that put them behind the eight-ball early. The Tigers trailed by 20 at the half, by 25 in the second half, and never got closer than 16 the rest of the way. Towson shot 38.1% from the field, including four of 15 from three-point range, and struggled to a 13 of 25 showing at the charity stripe in the contest. Christian May was the lone player scoring in double figures for the Tigers as he finished with 10 points in the loss.
